What is backlink?
- Incoming Links from other sites/URLs.
- Google says, backlinks is one of more than 200 factors to calculate the pagerank. Good back links rank site higher (and links from bad sites can also lower it).
How to benefit from backlink?
- Get your site linked from higher ranked sites.
- Get them within the contents of the site (Links in the sidebar and footer have less value)
- Get backlinks from high authority and trusted pages. But, backlinks from even comments and low authority pages also add value to the site.
- Get backlinks from more sites (read: domains) rather than a ton of backlinks from one site.
- Backlinks from spam sites and pages can harm the site’s search ranking. Hence, comment spam and other similar spams usually backfire.
- Anchor text in links have a value, so choose it carefully.
- Links in the beginning of a page has more value than the one towards the end. Try to get linked in the upper parts of an article.
